Fujukan, the Museum of University of the Ryukyus, is arranging a special exhibition of the herpetofaunal diversity of the Ryukyus. Several specimens that bear out the diversity and distribution of amphibians and reptiles in this region will be exhibited from the collection of Tetsuo Takara, the first director of this museum. Additionally, fossil/subfossils (and replicas) of these animals such as turtles from the late Pleistocene of the Ryukyus (including Geoemyda amamiensis), amphibians from the late Pleistocene and middle Holocene of southern Okinawajima Island, and amphibians and reptiles from modern deposits on Yoronjima Island will also be displayed. Most of the items are shown for the first time.
